This incredible formation shocked the world when it appeared on 15th August 2002 in a crop field next to a radio tower in Hampshire, UK. It clearly and flawlessly depicts a portrait of an alien “grey” holding a binary disc and what appears to be the 3 stars of Orion’s belt above the being’s right shoulder.
The message on the disc when decoded in ASCII reads as follows:
“Beware the bearers of FALSE gifts & their BROKEN PROMISES. Much PAIN but still time. BELIEVE. There is GOOD out there. We OPpose DECEPTION. Conduit CLOSING.”
Interestingly the formation appeared next to a radio tower in similar fashion to the Arecibo response binary strip formation that appeared just over a year before next to the Chilbolton observatory. Interestingly there have been reports that the dimensions of the portrait measured 59m x 33m, which when multiplied together makes 1947 – the date of the Roswell incident. It is also noteworthy that this alien portrait mirrors somewhat the human figures on the pioneer plaque and could therefore be a response to this. The being it depicts is most likely that of the senders of the Arecibo response the previous year, due to the similarities between the senders depiction featured in the Arecibo response.
Some have claimed that this formation was a commissioned hoax and a marketing stunt for the movie “Signs” being released on 2nd August 2002, 13 days before before the appearance of this pattern. However with such a prominent and accusatory message appearing in a private field directly next to the BBC Winchester radio tower, surely someone would have got into severe legal troubles, akin to spray painting the same message in graffiti of the BBC building in London as a marketing stunt. You can imagine there would be legal ramifications for either action, so it is for this reason, as well as the detail and precision of the formation and the highly elaborate nature of such a hoax – the commission, hoax or man made explanations are extremely unlikely and conversely solidifies this remarkable formation as a top rated signal.
